I asked ChatGPT to create an optimized version of my resume tailored to the Graphic Design Industry. I used prompts such as “Rewrite my resume for a graphic design role, emphasizing visual communication, typography, and branding,” and “Make my experience sound more professional and aligned with industry expectations.” I also asked the AI to “focus on design-related skills, leadership, and project-based experience rather than general job duties.” I provided ChatGPT with my original resume as a framework and allowed it to reframe my experiences and skills to highlight design thinking, and technical skills. Things were rewritten as impact-driven bullet points, and more emphasis was placed on things like branding and layout consistency rather than simple responsibilities. For example, my leadership role as Editor-in-Chief became a central design experience rather than just a title. Throughout this process, I learned that prompt engineering plays a major role in output quality. Being specific about the industry, desired tone, and key skills leads to stronger, more clear and design focused results. I also learned that tailoring content for different audiences requires shifting language and priorities-what matters in design (concept, process, execution) differs from other fields like marketing or retail.
